Celebrating 50 Years in Business 1975-2025

A lot was different 50 years ago, here in San Bernardino California. A lot was different all over the United States. People living in San Bernardino could enjoy dinner for $2.65 at Georges Smorgasbord on the corner of 5th and G Street. It was .30 cents to ride the bus, and, if public transportation wasn't for you, you could purchase a brand new 1975 Chevy Nova for $3986.00 at Crest Chevrolet on E Street. Residents remember visiting Movieland Frontier town on Valley Blvd. for pony rides. In 1975, Tommy Lasorda, of the LA Dodgers, signed autographs at the Inland Center Mall, and in September that year, Black Sabbath performed with Lynard Skynard at the Orange show. In the spring of 1975, the Vietnam war had just ended. Soldiers were coming home, the racial divide was closing, and many Americans found themselves trying to forge a path of financial freedom. In San Bernardino, the Norton Air Force Base was beginning to wind down its military operations and sold off a few of its unused hangar buildings. Two of which make up Wyatt’s Paint & Body’s main office today. Bought in 1973, the hangar buildings were disassembled and transported to their new home on the corner of Rancho Ave. and Foothill Blvd. It took Randy and Debbie Wyatt two years to obtain the proper permits, but in the fall of 1975, they opened Wyatt’s Paint & Body. 50 years later, Wyatt’s Paint & Body, still family owned and operated, continues to serve the community of San Bernardino and beyond.
